Naturalization simply means giving an immigrant to a nation the rights and privleges of being a natural born citizen, in a nutshell this is called citizenship. A naturalized person is considered to be a citizen of the nation that has granted him naturalized status. This gives him all leagal and voting rights that would automatically be given to someone born in a country.
In most countries, naturilization generally means that a person has met the basic requirements to be considered for naturalization. They usually are that the person has held a legal status as a full-time resident in the country for a minimum period. They also must promise that they will obey and uphold that country’s laws. This us usulaly done with an ceremonial oath or pledge of allegiance.
There are some countries that require a naturalized citizen to renounce any other citizenship in a nation that he currently holds, thus forbidding dual citizenship. However, whether or not this renunciation actually causes a person to lose his original citizenship depends on the laws of the respective countries involved.
Every country has a different system for applying for natualization and eventually the Global Citizen Project will provide this information freely to the whole world.
Hello,
My father was born in Latvia. In 1992, my father made a big deal for my brother and I put in an application for dual citizenship to Latvia. I was born and raised in California, US. I have had this citizenship for sometime and was wondering what are the benefits to this? Any info. would be much appreciated.
AS a citizen of Latvia, you can settle anywhere within the European Union, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. The European Union is very large; just pick a country.
Have fun

I am Croatian citizenship. What do I need to move to Vanuatu or safeguarded, and how do I live there that I can get citizenship? What are the costs? Thank you!
Hello,
Please, i sincerely need your advice and assistance regarding my siblings. Two of them were born in Austia in 1978 when our parents were studying there. However, they returned back to Nigeria with our parents when they were 5 years old. And ever since then, they have never had any opportunity to return back to Austria. Meanwhile, our major concern is that they (my siblings) only have their birth certificate and several picrures as the only evidences in their possesion. Hence, is there any possibility of them having the opportunity to return to Austria. Else, please, what do we do.
Thanks so much for your anticipated co-operation(s).
Hi Funso
If your father is Dr Sunday O Ejioye, then we were good friends in Ondo in 1982-83 when we were on National Service in Adeyemi College. I also knew your siblings and I still have a photo we took. I was always fascinated by two young kids, a boy and a girl, who only spoke German. I knew they were born in Austria where your father got his doctorate and your mother I think studied nursing. If indeed I am correct about the Ejioye kids then send me an email.
How are your parents?
